This is the course that I wished I could have attended ten years ago when I was starting out on my art journey. I wanted to learn, but not only did I not know a thing about what materials to purchase or how to use them, art supply shops were so overwhelming and a little intimidating with so much choice and product available.
So I've created this course with all that in mind so you can come away with the confidence to start a painting. No more looking at a blank page or canvas wondering where to start and what to use.
Anyone can learn to paint and this workshop will give you the basic understanding and tools you need to move on to create a painting.
In this workshop we will talk about, and learn to use :
- Different types of brushes and their uses.
- Types and quality of acrylic paints available. Note: I only use acrylic paints, so oil paints won't be discussed.
- Different ways of applying paint from brushes to finger and bubble wrap.
- Layering paint and washes.
- Other types of media – water soluble pencils, oil pastels, inks etc.
- Stencils and how to use in your art, and as well as household items for mark making.
- Substrates – different types of canvas, paper and timber.
- Paint Additives and Mediums – what is available and what they are used for.
- We will lightly touch on colour and colour harmony to help you create interest in your paintings.
You will try out all types of brushes, paints, inks and pencils. You will use implements other than brushes to apply paint, learn how to use stencils and generally have a fun time learning about paint, techniques and equipment.
You will be supplied with a Painting Pad to use during the class, that you can then take home to continue working in.
This class has a maximum of four students. A small group classes will enable you to receive individual attention, allow you to ask as many questions as you need and generally produce a heightened learning environment.
The class is held in my wonderful studio at Umina Beach. My studio is in under my pole home in a bush environment, so there are lots of trees and birds around. We will have a small break for a cuppa half way through on the deck just off the studio.
"Jenn, thank you for guiding me through the Beginners art class and enjoying a fabulous afternoon recently. Your studio and your artwork on display provided a creative and relaxed space to get inspired. I feel confident to embrace mixing and using colour, and bring a piece of my art to life! " Julie, Berowra NSW
No experience required, just enthusiasm and the desire to learn. This class would suit total beginners who want to learn about materials and techniques in a supportive and fun environment.
What to Bring:
Just yourself and enthusiasm, we will provide everything else.
An apron will be provided, but please just wear clothes that you wouldn't mind if they were splashed with a bit of paint.
Other Things to Note:
:: A minimum of two students will be required for the class to go ahead. You will be notified two days prior if the class is to be postponed. Please contact me at any time for updates, or check with my website.
:: Please be aware that there are some stairs to navigate in my front garden leading down to my studio.
:: My studio is on the bottom level of a pole house which is set set up high off the ground, and there are no boundary fences between us and most of the neighbours, therefore it is not suitable for children.
:: COVID Safe: I am approved by the Central Coast Council for maximum of six students in my studio area.
